Blue Hemimorphite | Wenshan, Yunnan, China

$25

Hemimorphite is a zinc silicate mineral that forms primarily in the oxidized zones of zinc deposits. Its name refers to its unusual crystal structure, in which opposite ends of a crystal can develop differently. Hemimorphite occurs in several forms, including distinct crystals, fibrous growths, and rounded botryoidal formations.

This natural specimen from Wenshan, Yunnan, China features prominent blue botryoidal hemimorphite across much of its surface, with rounded formations ranging from pale blue-green to brighter blue. Along the contrasting brown matrix, exposed edges reveal delicate radiating, fibrous crystal growth and additional pockets of hemimorphite, giving the piece a noticeably different appearance as it is turned.
