Labradorite, named for Canada’s Labrador Peninsula where it was first identified in 1770, is a feldspar mineral admired for its vivid play of color known as labradorescence.
This optical effect reveals brilliant flashes of blue, green, gold, and occasionally red or violet as light moves across the surface. Fun fact: a Finnish variety discovered in the 1940s displays the entire color spectrum and is known as Spectrolite.
This multicolored specimen weighs 880 g and measures approximately 90 × 49 × 116 mm.
