Labradorite, named for Canada’s Labrador Peninsula where it was first identified in 1770, is a feldspar mineral admired for its luminous play of color known as labradorescence.
This optical effect reveals brilliant flashes of blue, green, gold, and occasionally red or violet as light moves across the surface. Fun fact: a Finnish variety discovered in the 1940s that displays the full color spectrum is called Spectrolite.
This piece weighs 55 g and measures approximately 38 × 43 mm.
