Opal is a hydrated form of silica known for its ability to display flashes of spectral color known as play-of-color. Welo Opal, discovered in Ethiopia’s Wollo region, has become especially known for its often translucent body color and vivid color play.

This natural, unpolished specimen displays pale translucent opal against its natural matrix, with small subtle areas of color play revealed as light moves across the surface.
