$25

Coyamito and Laguna Agates are varieties of translucent cryptocrystalline Quartz, also called Chalcedony, that form with typical patterning of layered banding, classifying them as an Agate crystal. These types of agate are location-specific, only found in the mountainous regions of Chihuahua, Mexico.

Important note: We are placing these tumbles together as Coyamito and Laguna agates are found in close proximity to each other and are very similar. These were purchased from owners of both claims as a combined lot. Once tumbled, some of the differentiating features can be lost. We will not label without 100% certainty, and thank you for understanding. Please see below for weight/measurements. Pricing is based on features including but not limited to color, banding, finish, etc.

Laguna’s, in particular, are one of the most sought after agates in the world. They are known for their array of colors and tight banding. Some specimens have been known to have over 100 bands per square inch! Some of these bands produce a parallax effect, or shadowing, depending on how they form within the Agate itself. “When a banded agate forms with close alternating opaque and transparent bands, the light entering the agate can cast an observable shadow from one opaque band onto the next. As the parallel bands change their perceived angle, the appearance of movement and perception of depth occur.
